Vs English

Flipping through the language books, revising for my boards one evening, I came upon a thought—what if हिंदी and English met each other...

Fair and young
With a jewelled crown
Came she from somewhere,
I think from some far-off town

“ Excuse me..
I’ve come from far-away west
I was born of Anglo-Saxon,
brought up by German, caressed by Roman
And now, I’ve come to rule the world, the rest “

“That was all old,”
She smiled a little and told
See now, what do you see
I’ve become the third most spoken language
Soon, the first I would be

Ah.. there comes a boy
Let’s ask him

“Who’s better
Day or—
Fire or—
               आग
You or—

The boy said nothing
Not a word he spake
He caught the hands of the two
And made them shake

That language doesn’t matter
It’s the love that is felt;
passion, that is expressed;
and pain that is shared

And the world might not
have come this far if
on the basis of language,
the earth we had teared..

  1. Interesting. I'd still think that languages would perhaps never have such an argument. We humans have this tendency to bring in a power struggle and cause strife. You might find this interesting https://ed.ted.com/lessons/how-languages-evolve-alex-gendler#review
