Licking The Leak
I was out, after exams were (at least, till then) over... when my phone rang. After a dead tiring and and seemingly never-ending round of tests, exams and continuous night-parties with my textbook friends, that day was kinda paradise for me.
Yes, then I picked up my phone and it was my Mom. "Yes...Mumma?"
"Ah.. Riddhi, your Maths paper was leaked. CBSE says you'll need give a re-test."
The salsa flavoured nacho chip fell from my hand and I said, " What!... Umm.. Okay."
I know that is not the expected reply, but yes, that is what I felt like! For the past two weeks, the newspapers had become "leak times" and the Google was feeding me only with "leak updates"... There was now nothing unusual in it.
This leaking business has become so much prevalent that I couldn't help laughing at my situation. Okay, take another test, but please, be careful this time, we won't give another one then. Education shouldn't be disrespected so much, as to cheat in the exams. I know giving one end-of -the-year test is not a very good logic, but what logic are we exhibiting by smuggling papers before the exams.
As we as humans progress, our brain tends to think of building "roads not taken" to excel in everything. But, O Humans! (Can we call ourselves so?) What shall you be telling with a sigh;
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
I had my exams, and I—
I chose the smuggled paper to buy!
I had my exams, and I—
I chose the smuggled paper to buy!
This leaky tale leaked all over the media and this made me think-- are we really safe?
This week Mark Zuckerberg was held up over the media concerning FB being unsafe and we also know about the Aussies cheating in the gentleman's game. Apart from this some doping cases in certain sports also became one of the top news items. Are our cognitive skills made for cheating? Instead we can divert this and put it into use for some other productive work.
Ah.. now again the talks about the paper leaks on the T.V. ...-- The re-exam of Classes X is likely to be cancelled, and Class XII will give their exams. We now know it's not a one-time case and are ought to happen again and again, until we humans understand our conscience and promise to ourselves to make this world a better place to live in.
When we have too less in hand or too much at stake, that's the test of true character. Perhaps equally so when we could care the least.
